Sean Waters is the director of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs for Daimler Trucks North America (“DTNA”). Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, DTNA is the largest heavy-duty truck manufacturer in North America.
Sean’s responsibilities include understanding a wide range of issues, supporting the development of smart emission and transportation policies by directly encouraging research into numerous areas affecting heavy-duty commercial products. Sean recognizes how important it is to foster a cooperative relationship with regulators to ensure regulations are data-driven and science-based.
Sean has also been heavily involved in working with regulatory agency leadership on standard setting initiatives, most recently on heavy-duty engine and vehicle greenhouse gas standards. Sean is also very familiar with other heavy-duty regulations such as for criteria emissions, onboard diagnostics, fuel quality, and safety.
Sean serves on the Board and Executive Committee of the Truck and Engine Manufacturers Association (“EMA”) where he provides advice, counsel, and recommendations on the scientific and technical aspects of programs related to commercial truck emissions control strategies and safety technologies. Sean also serves on the Board of Directors for the Oregon Business Association, Portland Business Association and is a member of the UC Davis STEPS Advisory Board.
Sean earned his law degree from the University of Oregon’s School of Law. He has an undergraduate degree from Willamette University.
